" Teachers are the investment of the future of every nation"
The UNESCO has identified 5th October as the World Teachers' Day.Teachers indeed have a very significant contribution towards the global framework of growth and development and play a pivotal role in creating a sound and a greatly enabled future generation. Earlier Teacher's Day was celebrated at the country level, however, since 1994, UNESCO brought the celebrations of the status of being a teacher to the global level by establishing the World Teacher's Day.
UNESCO has certain objectives in celebrating this day. They are:
To activate a support system for the network of teachers around the world.
Every year the Education International (EI) launches public awareness campaign to highlight the contributions of the teaching profession.
Good conditions for employment, including appropriate salaries and contracts.
Good prospects for career growth with promotions.
Recruitment drives are conducted at university levels.
Actions are taken to increase the profile of teachers and the role they play in the media.
Good quality training for teachers so that they can give their optimum.
Respect for human rights and acceptance of inclusive education.
Effective management regarding recruitment and deployment of teachers.
The goal of UNESCO is to give the united support of the international community as well as the governments to the teachers, so that the quality of education increases.
The main targets of UNESCO are those countries which come under the purview of being under-developed, or developing, with the maximum number of out-of-school children.
UNESCO sends the message of the importance of investing in good teachers, as they are the key element to the growth and development of any nation.
World Teacher's Day is the day to show the love, respect and gratification towards the teachers who can make magic with a little chalk and knowledge.
Tokens of appreciation in the form of gifts and flowers are presented to the teachers by the pupils.
Handmade cards and hand-written notes top the list of gifts given to teachers.
Teachers of communities with special contribution are felicitated with awards.
Teachers are indeed a backbone of a nation. It is only right that their contribution is recognised and celebrated on a global level. Here is to wishing all the teachers out there.
A Happy Teacher's Day. Cheers!!
