4th of July is significant in United States' Calendar because it marks the anniversary of US Independence. It was on July 4, 1776, that members of the Second Continental Congress, adopted the final draft of the Declaration of Independence. Following its adoption, patriots erupted in cheers and celebrations. In 1941, Congress declared July 4 a federal holiday. Over time, various other summertime activities also came to be associated with the Fourth of July, including fireworks, historical pageants, picnics, baseball games, barbecues, parades, trips to the beach and live music.

Fireworks by Grucci will again be an event to look forward to in downtown Springfield on Wednesday. The event is organized by Spirit of Springfield and is sponsored by Mass Mutual Financial Group. The festivities are scheduled to begin in Springfield at Riverfront Park's Festival Field at 7:30 pm, where Dan Kane's Rising Stars will perform a patriotic program, with more than 100 youngsters. The sky will be painted with the hues of different colors and designs from the fireworks, including the Grucci Grand Illumination spelling out U.S.A
