Ask yourself, what are the most popular drinks served at most parties?? No, not Wine or Beer, or Champagne but the ever ignored punch. We are so used to drinking punches that we seem to have taken them for granted. Today's party punch recipes are said to have their origin in an ancient East Indian recipe of five ingredients, the term Punch being derived from ‘Paanch’, the Hindi word for 'five'. Arrack (mostly fermented palm sap), tea or spices, sugar, water, and lemon, the five ingredients, are found in most punch
recipes. British sailors of the 1700's were very fond of the concoction. The original punch recipe was altered and spiked with alcohol of course, and many came to consider themselves 'master punch brewers'. The most popular punches today are the ‘Bombay Punch’ and the ‘Fish House Punch’. Here how you can make your own Punches at home-:

Bombay Punch (40 Servings)

Ingredients-:
  • 2 cups squeezed lemon juice
  • Powdered sugar or simple syrup to taste
  • 3 cups brandy
  • 3 cups dry sherry
  • 1/3 cup maraschino
  • 1/3 cup orange liqueur
  • 3 750-ml.bottles champagne
  • 40 ounces club soda
  • Ice mold
Directions-:
  • Chill all ingredients well before mixing.
  • Sweeten the lemon juice with sugar or syrup.
  • Transfer to a punch bowl. Stir in the brandy, sherry, maraschino, and orange liqueur.
  • Add the champagne and club soda last.
  • Stir. Float an ice mold. If desired, garnish with slices of orange or lemon.
The Fish House Punch (40 Servings)

Ingredients-:
  • 3 cups fresh lemon juice
  • Powdered sugar or simple syrup
  • 6 cups (1 ˝ quarts) brandy
  • 2 cups (1 pint) peach brandy
  • 2 cups (1 pint) light rum
  • 2 cups strong tea (optional)
  • 4 cups (1 quart) club soda
  • Ice mold
Directions-:
  • Chill all ingredients well before mixing.
  • Sweeten the lemon juice to taste with the powdered sugar or simple syrup.
  • Pour the lemon mixture into a punch bowl.
  • Stir in the brandies, rum, and tea.
  • Add the club soda last, just before serving. Float an ice mold and, if desired, citrus slices.
