Friendship Bracelets

"A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you"

Friends are a gift of life and the most prized possession in one’s life. True friends are eternally linked to each other by the invisible string of love, trust, and faith, intertwined in an intricate pattern, which can weather the test of the most difficult times. Friendship bracelets symbolise this unique bond between two friends.

Friendship bracelets originated in Central America in the 1970s, in the form of macramé, which is a weaving and knotting design. These enigmatic little trinkets are difficult to tie and untie, and the recipient has to wear it till the bracelet itself wears out, and thus honouring the friend for the effort and time put into the project.

The art of macramé, which is knotting and weaving of threads in an intricate pattern, can be dated back to China from 481 to 221 B.C., and also Arabia in the 13th C. Over the centuries the sailors visiting these places picked up the nuances of the art form, and spread it to the different countries. Interestingly, to this day macrame includes the sailors’ knot-tying repertoire.
