Women Equality

The inequality between men and women is a phenomenon that existed since time immemorial. In the beginning girls were made well aware of the facts that they are unequal to boys in all respect. They strived for equality, raising their voice for equal rights. However, over the years we are beginning to see a significant change as far as the gender equality is concerned. Women today, have equal rights with men in various aspects like the right to vote and the right to have their own property. August 26th marks Women’s Equality Day. The day brings to mind women’s continuing efforts to the attainment of full equality. It is a global celebration which commemorates the 19th Amendment to the American Constitution. This amendment gave women the right to vote. Hence, the day stands as a reflective vision of how far women have come in the last century.

Celebration of Women’s Equality Day:

The celebration of women’s equality day is not a cake and balloon affair. Rather, the day is observed to spread awareness and raise the spirit of women in general. It is a day when women get together and envision their futures and their participation in various men oriented institutions and organizations. Women from all works of life partake in the women equality day programs. Cards are distributed to instill in every woman the hope for bright future.

Scenario of Women Today:

Women today have the right to vote, right to own property, right to work, right to education etc. The picture that we today get to see is far better from the past when women literally had to struggle for every right. Today, various movements campaign for women’s right and to improve the situation of women in various fields. Today feminist activists campaigned for legal rights and also to promote abortion rights, reproductive rights, bodily integrity and autonomy. The situation today is vastly different from the heartrending scene of the past and is seen to be improving even more and at a faster rate too.
