Wedding Dress

Your wedding day is the most important day of your life. Look like a princess on this day with a grand and elegant wedding dress. A wedding ceremony is incomplete without a wedding dress. So plan and prepare for it right from the beginning. Wedding dresses vary from region to region and from culture to culture.
In earlier times, a wedding was not only a marriage of two souls. It was a union of two families and sometimes even the union of two countries. Therefore, the way the bride dressed on her wedding day reflected her family and status in society. Rich and high society brides wore robust colors with expensive fabrics. Fur, silk and velvet were preferred by well-to-do brides.
Not too rich brides tried to copy the wedding gown designs but they could not afford the expensive materials. The richness and status of a bride was represented by the amount of cloth used in her wedding dress; the longer the trail the richer the bride. Not all of them could afford such luxuries. The poorer ones wore their best church dress for their wedding ceremony.
Usually a wedding dress is white in color in the Western world. It includes shades of ivory, eggshell and ecru. Queen Victoria made white a popular color for wedding dress when she wedded Albert of Saxe-Coburg in 1840. The photographs of her wedding were published everywhere and young brides followed suit. At that time bridal dresses used to be of any color except black, which stands for mourning, and red, which was connected to prostitutes. In the beginning blue was considered to be the color of purity. Later white came to symbolize virginity and happiness of the bride. But later brides wore white wedding dress when marrying for second and third time, in which case white was no more a symbol of virginity.
The wedding dress color is different in different cultures. A traditional Chinese bride wears red on the wedding day as red stands for good luck. In India, red is an auspicious color. Therefore, of the Indian brides wear red wedding dresses. Green is also a popular color for bridal dress in India as green is a symbol of fertility. Usually an Indian bride wears a sari for the wedding ceremony. White and cream colored saris are quite popular in Southern India. Depending upon the region to which the bride belongs, she may even wear lehenga and choli for her wedding. In Western cultures, brides generally wear bridal gowns on their wedding day.

Most of the couples spend a chunk of their wedding budget on their wedding dress. But one must also think about the future and not just spend your entire bank balance on a lavish wedding. Shop for cheaper wedding dresses at department stores and try searching online. You will even find some evening gowns which could also be used as wedding dress. Such gowns will be cheaper. The price of a gown accelerates once it is tagged as a wedding gown. In case your wedding budget is really huge, then trying out designer bridal wear would be a nice idea.
