Tanzania is the native place for Fischer’s Love Birds. Fischer’s lovebirds are from ‘Agapornis personata fischeri’ specie. Fischer’s Love Birds are found in a wide variety of color mutations—Albino, Pied, Black or Dark Eyed White, Dilute Blue, Dilute Yellow, Lutino, and Cinnamon. Fischer’s Love Birds are classified as distinct species of ‘Eye-ring Lovebirds’; the other three species being Black Cheeked, Masked and Nyasa. The ‘Eye-ring’ specie is very different, as the Fischer’s Lovebird possesses a white ring around their eyes that is not present in other breeds. Fischer’s Love Birds have a general green body with dark orange forehead. Their cheeks and throat, bib and collar are yellow, with white-eye ring, red beak, gray legs and green tail.
Fischer’s Lovebird is only five to six and a half inches at adulthood—quite smaller than other parrot species. They are generally bred in captivity and the female lays three to six eggs with an incubation period that ranges from 20-26 days. The prominent feature or unique characteristic of Fischer’s Love Bird is that they mate for life! Apart from this, their features include being energetic, playful and jolly.
