We have all heard about a bird called Love Birds. Love Birds are symbol of love and they portray strong bond between couples or lovers. These birds derive this name because they are always found sitting together in pairs, preening, chattering, and peeping with each other in close proximity. The specie of Love Bird is ‘Agapornis’.

There are nine different species of Love Birds. They are Fischer’s, Masked, Peach Faced, Nyasa, Black Cheeked, Madagascar, Red Faced, Black Collared and Abyssinian Love birds. Love Birds are about 17 cm in size and they weigh about 40-60 grams. Stout and plump body, large beak and a short blunt tail characterize them. These pocket birds are found in different colors and sometimes they are named after their colors too like violet lovebirds, blue lovebirds, peach face lovebirds, orange face lovebirds, mauve lovebirds, etc.

Lovebirds are curious, playful and energetic by behavior. They like pellets, fruit seeds, vegetables, fruits such as apples, bananas, kiwis, pears, grapes, berries for their proper growth and development. They are also very talented for the fact that they can mimic your voice. Peach Faced, the Masked and the Fischer’s are the most commonly found species of Love Birds. Love Birds are also friendly pets and easy to breed. However, you must be very careful with these birds and their health.
