And it is also the largest of the nine species of the Love Birds or Agapornis species. These are usually not seen as pets also. About Love birds |
Native of the central and eastern Ethiopia and southern Eritrea, Abyssinian Love Birds are found on the high altitudes like mountains. However, these birds are most difficult to breed. Due to their dimorphic feature, both male and female birds possess a certain unique characteristic to enable the breeders distinguish them. The male bird or cock has a red forehead on a mainly green body with red beak and gray feet and legs. It has a coal black flight feathers whereas on the other hand, female bird or hen is fully green in color without any variation all over the body.
Abyssinian Love Birds do not possess a White Ring band around their eyes. The scientific name for this bird is Agapornis Taranta. This bird is quite strong and builds a primitive nest for laying the eggs. This bird is also characterized by their careless, snoppy and negligent attitude and behavior unlike other birds of the parrot family. Their diet is more or less the same like Love Birds but they like more of fat content in their food. They love juniper berries and figs as their food.
