This incident took place during his presidential tenure. To their request, Dr. Radhakrishnan said them that instead of celebrating his birthday separately they should celebrate this day as teacher's day. He said that if they do so, it would be a great privilege for him. Since then onwards, September 5th, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birthday is celebrated as the day for appreciating the teachers throughout the country.
