Iftar Dua

The holy Ramadan is the ideal moment to seek forgiveness and blessings of the almighty. The devoted followers of the Allah observe fast from dawn to dusk. They take one meal before the early dawn, which is referred as Suhoor, in preparation for fasting and one meal after the sunset, popularly known as the Iftar meal. Muslims recite a dua before having their Suhoor and Iftar meals.

Dua for Iftar - Arabic, Urdu and English

The following Dua may be recited at the time of breaking one's fast. That is, before the Iftar meal.

Dua at the Beginning of the Fast

وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتَ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ

Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri ramadan

I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan

Nawaitu sauma ghadin anadai fardu syahri ramadhana hadzihissanati lillahitaala

I intend to do obligatory fast tomorrow in the month of Ramadan this year because of Allah

Dua at the End of the Fast

اللَّهُمَّ اِنِّى لَكَ صُمْتُ وَبِكَ امنْتُ [وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ] وَعَلَى رِزْقِكَ اَفْطَرْتُ

Allah humma inni laka samtu wa bika amantu wa alaika tawakkaltu wa ‘ala rizkika aftarto

O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You [and I put my trust in You] and I break my fast with Your sustenance.

Suhoor Dua

The following Dua may be recited at the time of beginning the fast.

"I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan."

Suhoor dua is believed to give strength to the followers of Islam for worshipping. It also helps prevent hunger, which is the cause of anger. Suhoor is a time when Allah accepts the dua of his sincere devotees.

During the month of Ramadan recite the following dua at night

"O Allah, the Lord, (this is) the month of Ramadan, in it Thou revealed the Holy Quran, and in it made obligatory "fasting" upon Thy servants, send blessings on Muhammad and on the children of Muhammad, and provide us with the means to go to Thy Sacred House for "Hajj" this year and every year; and in this month forgive my grave sins, verily, other than Thee, no one can liberate (me) from its consequences, O Beneficent, O Omniscient."

These duas help you purify yourself. One must religiously spend ten to fifteen minutes before the Adhaan for Maghrib in dua. Engage yourself in the recitation of the Iftar dua. These moments are a golden chance to seek what you greatly aspire for. As this is the moment when the gracious Allah answers your prayers and the dua gets accepted.
