Pet Grooming Tips |

|
Regular grooming of your pet is essential for its overall health and fitness. Regular brushing of the coat removes dust, dirt, loose hair, and makes the coat shiny and healthy due to blood circulation. Here are some pet grooming tips which are very essential to keep in mind especially when you are grooming your pet at home. |
Pet bathing
You should bathe your pet according to its need. All pets do not need to be washed daily. Bathe your cat in lukewarm water only once a month. Put cotton wool into the ears of your pet to prevent water from seeping into the ear canal. Make sure that the shampoo does not enter the eyes, ears and mouth of your pet.
Pet drying
While towel drying your pet after a bath, squeeze out water from legs and beard instead of rubbing its coat. Use a dryer if necessary. Start brushing upwards on the legs when they are wet, use a slicker brush when they are drier.
Pet brushing
Use a pin brush to remove the knots from your pet’s coat. This is very important in case of long haired cats and dogs. Brush against the natural flow of the hair. Start brushing from top of the leg and brush downwards.
Pet nail trimming
Nails of pet animals should be trimmed regularly, especially in case of cats that have a habit of scratching on the furniture. Cut the nails very carefully so as not to harm the blood vessels. Even if they start bleeding, hold them tightly for sometime with cotton or cloth till the bleeding stops.
Points to note:
Pets should never be punished if they do not respond well to the grooming schedule. They may be feeling uncomfortable due to something which you have to find out. They may co-operate once they are used to it.
Never let your pet play with grooming tools else it will consider the grooming schedule to be a kind of game.
Pets should never be hit with grooming tools otherwise they will feel scared of the grooming sessions.
Introduce your pet to grooming sessions when it is a puppy and it will not resist grooming when it grows up.
Ears should be checked regularly for signs of infection.
