By following the pet grooming instructions properly you can groom your pet yourself at home. It will save you a lot of time and money and it will deepen the bonding shared by you and your pet. During the grooming process you will be bound to look carefully at your pet and will thus, be able to spot any abnormal health symptoms. This will save you from visits to the vet at a later stage.
Following are brief instructions on how to groom your pet –
Bathing: You should bathe your pet only if necessary. Use a shampoo which suits your pet’s coat and skin. Walk into the shower with your large sized pet or use a tub for smaller pets.
Nail care: Pets, especially dogs, should be made habituated to nail clipping from puppy hood so that they do not make a fuss about it later on. Buy a nail clipper that is safe and easy to use. Change your pet nail clipper from time to time when the blades become dull as they can harm your pet’s nail and cause infection too.
Caring for eyes and ears: Clean your pet’s eyes with warm wash cloth. Regularly check your pet’s ears and trim any amount of unnecessary hair inside the ear that may irritate your pet. Check for redness or bad odors as they can be a symptom of infection.
Brushing your pet’s coat: Regular brushing should be done from an early age so that your pet does not become frightened of brushing. Long haired pets need special care in brushing their hair. Short haired ones can be taken care of two to three times in a week.
Dental care: Make it a regular habit to brush your pet’s teeth to protect it from plaque, tartar and other dental diseases. Begin with soft cotton for the initial days and then shift to dog tooth brush. Buy toothpaste which is specially made keeping animal needs in mind.
