There are interesting myths surrounding the origin of white German Shepherd. It is believed that the shining coats of white shepherds are actually developed from the original German Shepherd dogs. For instance, the early books written on the German Shepherd Dogs, like "The Alsatian WoIf Dog" by George Horowitz and "The German Shepherd, Its History, Development and Genetics" written by M. B. Willis provide information about the early existence of White Shepherds in Europe in the year 1882.
Max von Stephanitz, who is regarded as the founder of the German Shepherd breed, wrote a book named "Der Deutsche Schaferhund In Wart Und Bild" in 1921 and included the photograph of a white German Shepherd which was the descendant of Horand von Grafrath. Horand is considered the predecessor of the modern Shepherd dogs. In the year 1947, Milo Denlinger published "The Complete German Shepherd" and makes mention of a white German Shepherd from Northern Germany. Thus there are enough evidences that make this white coated breed a part of the genetic pool of the German Shepherd Dog.
