Pekingese: Commonly called "Peke," this breed boasts of a Chinese origin. They originated in China over 2000 years ago as a favored and revered Imperial pet. For centuries, ownership of these cute little dogs was restricted to the members of the Chinese Imperial Palace. Chinese considered Pekingese as guardian spirit because of their resemblance to Chinese lions. And these treasured little lion dogs were not found outside of China until the year 1860. These cute pooches were called lion dogs because of their broad chest and straight back. Peke displays quite a muscular and strong build. It weighs anything up to 6.5 kg. With a flat face and snub nose and deeply set eyes, this regal pet is an adorable companion.
