Although it is known that the Newfoundland dogs don't need a regular exercise schedule to stay fit, but don't let that fool you. When they are outdoors, Newfies love to play and swim; they are extremely responsive, highly intelligent and will help you in pursuing hard tasks. Owners should maintain a regular and moderate training schedule so that their Newfies stay healthy and fit.
As common with the large breeds, the Newfoundland dogs too are prone to health problems like sub aortic stenosis, hip dysphasia, arthritis or may be genetic heart diseases. But you can prevent your dog from acquiring these diseases by providing him a well balanced diet from a very young age. Newfoundland pups require well balanced meals as it helps in building strong bones and joints. As with the adult Newfoundland dogs, a normal diet with all the nutrients in correct proportion should be fed. One should regularly keep a tab on the weight of the Newfoundland dogs.
