Dog collar is as an important dog accessory for controlling dogs. It is a collar designed specifically for dogs which they wear on their necks. A dog collar usually contains information about the dog's owner, such as his/ her address and telephone number. It may even contain information about the dog's vaccination and any other important health related information. The word dog collar also refers to clerical collars and wide choker like necklaces which were quite popular in the Edwardian era.

Dog collars are of various types. There are some basic dog collars and dog training collars. Basic dog collars include -
Buckle dog collar- These are also known as flat collars. Usually nylon or leather is used to make these collars.
Flea collars for dogs - These dog collars contain flea repelling chemicals. They are often worn as an additional collar over the regular buckle dog collar.
Elizabethan collar - Elizabethan collars are in the form of a truncated cone. This collar can be used by dogs as well as cats. It prevents them from scratching or licking on wounds or infections on the head, neck or other parts of the body.
