Ingredients (for 6 to 8 servings):

  • 3 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 red onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped lean bacon
  • 1/4 cup chopped chives
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper for tasting the recipe
  • 1/4 cup pickle juice
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tart green apple cut into pieces but not peeled
Procedure:
  • Cook the potatoes in their skins one night before you prepare this salad recipe.
  • Cool the potatoes but avoid refrigerating them.
  • Fry and cook the bacon until it becomes crisp.
  • Place the bacon away and drain it on paper towels.
  • Combine chives, pickle juice, and sour cream. Also, add mayonnaise and onion to the mixture.
  • Add fried bacons to the above mixture.
  • Sprinkle some salt and pepper.
  • Put the apple pieces and potatoes into the mixture of mayonnaise and other ingredients.
  • Toss the above mixture gently and sprinkle paprika over it.
  • Keep the mixture in the refrigerator for 2 hours so that the ingredients get blended easily and you get the right flavor.
  • Add some vinegar, salt, and pepper to the above mixture.

Chicken and Dumplings :

Ingredients :
  • 12 cups chicken broth
  • 1 rotisserie chicken
  • 3 cups self-rising flour, plus more for countertop
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 6 tablespoons Crisco shortening
  • 1 cup milk
Procedure:
  • Heat the chicken broth over high heat in a large stockpot with a lid. Remove the skin from the chicken and pull the meat off the bone. Shred the chicken meat.
  • Add the chicken to the broth and bring to a boil.
  • Meanwhile, combine the flour, sage, thyme, oregano, and pepper to the bowl of a food processor fitted with the metal blade. Pulse 1 time. Add the shortening and pulse 6 times.
  • Add the milk and process until the dough comes together, about 30 seconds.
  • Remove the dough from the food processor and place on a lightly floured countertop.
  • Use a floured rolling pin to roll the dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Use a pizza cutter to cut into strips about 1 by 3-inches.
  • Drop the strips into the boiling broth a few at a time. The dumplings will look waterlogged and gooey.
  • Stir very gently just once. Reduce the heat to medium.
  • Cover and simmer for 25 minutes.

German Rouladen :

Ingredients :
  • 1 1/2 pounds flank steak
  • German stone ground mustard, to taste
  • 1/2 pound thick sliced bacon
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar dill pickle slices
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cube beef bouillon
Procedure:
  • Cut the flank steak into thin filets; about 1/4 inch thick and 3 inches wide.
  • Generously spread one side of each filet with mustard to taste. Place bacon, onions and pickle slices on each filet and form into a roll. Use string or toothpicks to hold the roll together.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt butter. Place the rolls in the butter and saute until browned.
  • Pour in 2 1/2 cups of water and add the bouillon cube; stirring to dissolve the bouillon cube. Simmer the rolls for about an hour.

Cucumber Slices With Dill:

Ingredients :
  • 4 large cucumbers, sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon dried dill weed
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt (optional)
Procedure:
  • In a large serving bowl, combine cucumbers, onions and dill.
  • In a medium size bowl combine sugar, vinegar, water and salt; stir until the sugar dissolves.
  • Pour the liquid mixture over the cucumber mixture.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours before serving

German Leek and Potato Soup:

Ingredients :
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup chopped leeks
  • 8 potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme
  • 1 ham bone
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • salt and pepper to taste
Procedure:
  • In a large pot over medium heat, cook onions in butter until translucent.
  • Stir in leeks, potatoes, water, thyme and the ham bone.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer until potatoes are tender, 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Remove ham bone and puree soup with a blender or food processor.
  • Return to pot, stir in cream, salt and pepper, heat through and serve.

Hot Frankfurter Rolls:

This is one of the recipes, which is popular among children as well as adults. Frankfurter stands for the sausages (made of mixed beef and pork) and hot dogs that are made in Frankfurt am Main, a city in Germany. The Frankfurter rolls are best served with German mustard and curry ketchup.

Ingredients (for 6 servings):
  • 6 thin slices of white bread
  • 6 Frankfurters (like Meica)
  • German sweet mustard
  • 1 and 3/4 oz melted butter
  • 3 German pickled gherkins
  • Curry ketchup (popular brands like Hela and Burkhardt can be used)
Procedure:
  • Separate the crusts from the bread slices
  • Roll to make the bread flexible.
  • Apply mustard on the bread slices and along their edges.
  • Apply curry ketchup on a slice of bread if you'd like to add more flavors.
  • Keep a Frankfurter at the top part of the bread, and add some gherkins as well.
  • Roll up the bread on a baking tray and apply melted butter on its upper part and sides.
  • Roll up 5 more bread slices and bake them until they turn brown and crisp.
  • Keep the rolls away from heat and let them cool.
  • Remove the sticks before you serve the Frankfurter rolls.

  • 4 eggs

  • Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • Add orange juice and canola oil into the saucepan, alternately with the flour, salt, and baking powder mixture.

  • Pour half of the mixture in a floured tube pan where you have applied grease.
  • Put half the number of apple slices into the mixture.
  • Spread sugar and cinnamon over the apple slices.
  • Top the above mixture with more apples and cinnamon.
  • Bake the mixture at 350° for more than an hour, until a toothpick placed at the center just comes out without any hassle.

Ingredients:
  • 6 to 8 German style bratwurst
  • 1 large onion, cut into slices
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar

  • 1 to 2 (12-ounce) bottles of Lowenbrau Original

Procedure:
  • Grill the bratwurst for around 8 minutes, after you have pierced its skin.

  • About 4 and 1/2 pounds chicken pieces
  • 1/2 cup peanut oil
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 cup dark German beer

  • 1 teaspoon German mustard (Düsseldorf-style)
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh basil
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Procedure:
  • Whisk peanut and German mustard in a saucepan.
  • Blend German beer and lemon juice.
  • When the mixture turns smooth, stop blending the beer and juice.

  • Let charcoal briquettes get heated in a charcoal grill.

  • With large tongs, remove the charcoal to one end of the grill.
  • Apply the non-stick cooking spray uniformly on the grill rack, distant from the grill.
  • Keep the chicken pieces on the grill rack, on the side of the coal.
  • Cook the chicken until they turn crisp. Turn the chicken pieces as required, so as to avoid charring.
  • Keep the chicken on the cooler part of the grill.
  • Cover the chicken pieces and continue cooking until you find juices coming off the meat.
