New York City (NYC) celebrates New Year's Eve in style. Manhattan and Times Square are the most happening places and scores of people head towards these spots on New Year's Eve.

  • The most popular event of New Year's Eve is the Ball Drop tradition at the Time's Square which dates back to 1906. The Ball is located on the roof of One Times Square at a height of 141 feet. On New Year's Eve the ball starts descending, and covers the distance of 141 feet in 60 seconds. It begins descent via a specially designed flagpole at 11.59 pm to reach the ground at the stroke of midnight, ushering in a brand new year.

  • An innovative way of ushering in the New Year is with a late evening walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and the City Hall area. The walk finishes to the spectacular sight of fireworks from around the area. The walk itself is beautiful with the sights of Central Park, Grand Army Plaza, Staten Island and New Jersey Fireworks, as well as the Empire State Building light show.
