It was believed that the celebration of Mother’s Day began in 1907 when Anna Jarvis, observed Mother's Day on 2nd Sunday of May to commemorate the second anniversary of her mother's death. By the next year in 1908, Mother's Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia. In 1913, the House of Representatives in U.S.A. unanimously adopted a resolution appealing the then, President, his members of Cabinet, Congress, and other officials of the federal government to wear a white carnation on Mother's Day.

Thus, the then Congress passed another Joint Resolution on May 8, 1914, specifying the second Sunday of the month of May every year to be observed as Mother's Day. And to make this occasion more special, Mother’s Day activities are held in almost majority of the schools, colleges and local community clubs with great verve and fervor.
