Gallantry Awards

In India, bravery is considered the best trait anyone can display; brave martyrs are guaranteed a place in heaven in Indian beliefs. The Gallantry Awards are the modern way to honor soldiers and civilians who have shown extraordinary courage. They’re usually presented as part of India’s Republic Day ceremonies.

Gallantry Award Prospects

Medals, cash prizes, honored titles, memorial services or robes of honor – all of these are ways that India honors its heroes, including those who have lost their lives while in service to the country.
Anyone who has fought against internal, or external, enemies of the nation is eligible, whether he or she is in the military, is a defense official, or is a private civilian.

Kinds of Gallantry Awards

There are many different types of Gallantry Awards, for different types of recipients and different types of activities. Some of the most well-known awards in India are:
National Bravery Award: Recognizes bravery in children who have shown exceptional valor in meeting certain enemies or challenges.
Shaurya Chakra: Recognizes bravery while facing enemies, and is awarded to military personnel and civilians.
Ashok Chakra: Given based on the recommendations from members of state government, central government, and other departments in India. Recognizes courageous civilians.
Param Vir Chakra: Similar to the Medal of Honor in the U.S., this award recognizes bravery in defense soldiers, and can be given to anyone from all of the branches of the Indian military.
