| History of Holi prompts different sights and rituals of Holi. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna and Radha first played Holi with colors and pranks upon the Gopis in Vrindavan. Rituals of Holika reveal that Prahlad, son of king Hiranyakashipu, was an ardent devotee of Sri Krishna. The king wanted to be worshiped as one and only god and his son opposed him to it. Enraged king ordered his sister, Holika, resistant to fire, to sit in fire with Prahlad to burn him alive. But, Prahlad’s devotion survived him and burnt Holika instead. Tradition of enormous bonfire day before Holi followed this myth. |
