Like all other festivals, kids seem to enjoy Rakhi to the fullest. They are up at the break of dawn, bursting with joy waiting to crawl into their new clothes. Though they may not understand the significance of the festival in its entirety the Rakhi Sweets and the Rakhi Gift baskets are alluring enough for them to know it's a joyous occasion. And of course it pure joy to see a 3-year-old tying a Rakhi to her four-year old brother as he looks on full of pride and love.

Off late, Rakhi has gotten to be a bit like Christmas for Indian Children. A time to give and receive gifts. However, the regular divinity Rakhi giftswon't go down very well with a child and therefore thanks to the surge in marketing techniques we have a who lot of items pitched specifically as Rakhi Gifts for Kids. Lets take a look-:
Soft toys
Don't you remember how when you were small, your soft toy was your most important friend in the world. Well its same with the kids these days, they see images of Calvin and Hobbes and want their own little Hobbes. The Soft toys you buy could depend on your kid's choice, does he like animals, would he prefer clowns or regular action figures, and girls may prefer dolls. Soft toys are a safe choice of a gift for a kid. Remember to buy the one's which are for their age group.
Bicycle
If your kids are really young, there's a good possibility that this will be their first bicycle ever. But remember, give this gift only if you have enough safe space around your house for the kids to prance around because nothing is worse than seeing a locked bicycle. First bicycles are always special and we remember them forever and it will mean so much to the kids if they know that the gift is from their brother of sister (of course, parent's you are going to have to pay for it).
Chocolates
If you are not into elaborate Rakhi celebrations then do remember to gift the children chocolates from one another. Make sure they are chocolates with a low lead content, preferably white milk based and not too large.
For a truly special Rakhi gift, take the children to an amusement park to spend the rest of the day there once the rituals have been performed. Tell them it's their gift to one another, and teach them values of love and devotion on your way there.
Children love gifts irrespective of how much they cost but just to add a personal touch to the material offerings that you intend to make, ask your kids to make a nice hand made card for each other where they should write down how they feel about each other. Also explain to them the Raksha Bandhan History and Rakhi Traditions .
