Diwali Sweet

Barfi
Barfi or burfi is an Indian sweet made from condensed milk, cooked until it solidifies. Barfi is often flavored with cashew, mango, pistachio and spices, and is sometimes served coated with a thin layer of actual silver. Visually, barfi sometimes resembles cheese, and may have a hint of cheese to it. For this reason, barfi is sometimes called "Indian cheese cake". Barfi is popular all over India and is often a part of Indian festivals, especially Diwali.

Jalebi
Jalebi is a sweet commonly sold as a street food in India. It is made from deep-fried, syrup-soaked batter and shaped into large, chaotic pretzel shapes. Jalebis are mostly bright orange in color but are also available in white. It can be served warm and dripping or cold, in which case it has a somewhat chewy texture with a crystallized sugar crunch. The sugars are get partly fermented which is thought to add to the taste and flavor of the dish.

Laddu
Laddu or Ladoo is a popular Indian sweet. Laddu is often made to celebrate festivals like Diwali or household events such as weddings. It is made of flour and other ingredients formed into balls that are dipped in sugar syrup. The popularity of laddu is due to its ease of preparation. In fact, laddu is so popular that any chubby kid in India is affectionately called 'Laddu.'

Gulab Jamun
Gulab Jamun is a popular Indian and Pakistani sweet dish comprised of fried milk balls in a sweet syrup flavored with cardamom seeds and rosewater or saffron. Mixes and finished products are often available in supermarkets, though it is still popular to be made from scratch. They also have the distinction of being the favorite Mithai of the Indians settled abroad as they are easily available in ready to eat packets.

Kheer
Kheer is a traditional Indian and Pakistani dish, a rice pudding typically made by boiling rice with milk and sugar. It is often flavored with cardamom and pistachios. It is almost always prepared in Indian houses during Diwali and takes a good 6-7 hours to prepare, but is all worth it in the end!
