Mother's Day History
Mother’s Day is one of the most important festivals around the world. This is one day that honors woman and motherhood. Mother’s Day is just not about giving gifts and flowers. It is a day to strengthen the bonds of love between a mother and her child.

Some people think that only kids celebrate this day for their mom. But on the contrary this tradition is much more prevalent among adults as they may or may not live with their mothers any more. Take a break from your hectic schedule and spend some time with the woman who raised you and has loved you her entire life.
The origin of Mother’s Day dates back to nearly 1907 in Philadelphia. Julia Ward Howe in 1872 and Anna Jarvis in 1907 were the best-known pioneers who worked on the thought of the Mother’s Day. America acknowledged this day to honor motherhood at the national level in 1914. It set the date on the second Sunday of May every year. President of America announced it to be a holiday.

At the beginning the celebrations of Mother’s Day were marked by the families getting together and some celebrations in the churches. People also started wearing carnations as a symbol to this day. If one wears a colored carnation on Mother’s Day it implies that one’s mother is alive. Whereas if one wears a white carnation, it denotes that that one's mother is no more. In England, mother’s day was celebrated as Mothering Sunday that came in mid-Lent. In different parts around the world Mother’s Day is celebrated differently.
