Rosh Hashanah Activities

Rosh Hashanah is a unique opportunity for Jews to take a moment to reflect upon our actions over the past year, to repent for our sins and gain others' and God's forgiveness, and to make resolutions regarding their goals and behavior for the coming year. Therefore, there are certain religious Rosh Hashanah Activities observed on this day to pray for the upcoming year.
Selichot are recited in the days and month leading up to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Different sects of Jews recite Selichot at different times and frequency during this time period. Selichot focus on forgiveness. Sometime between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, it is traditional to throw crumbs of bread into a body of water (that preferably has fish in it).

And a prayer, 'Tashlich' (meaning "you shall cast away') is recited. The prayer and action symbolize the casting away of our sins, and our commitment to deep introspection and change. Both the body of water and the fish are symbolic. Jewish writings compare the Bible to water, and just as fish cannot live without water, so to a Jew cannot live without Judaism.

Yet another Rosh Hashanah Activities include Seudah. Seudah is to celebrate the Jewish New year in a warm, friendly student environment. To meet new and interesting people. To discuss hopes and aspirations for the coming year. To share readings relevant to the New Year. To eat, drink and be merry!

Dgreetings.com offers you an abridged synopsis of the Rosh Hashanah Activities that are performed by the Jews on this particular day of New Year. Even students who stay far off also observe these practices.
