San Diego, located in the far west corner of California, bordered by Mexico, is a city full of life. The annual San Diego county fair is a major tourist attraction, primarily because it organizes a wide variety of events to suit everyone’s interests. One of those events is the annual San Diego Flower and Garden show. Unlike other garden shows, this show is visited not only by flower enthusiasts, but a large number of tourists as well. The primary reason being that many people come to the San Diego fair to visit a certain event but do end up peeking at certain others as well.
Over the years, the San Diego flower festival has endeavored to broaden its horizons and spread qualitative horticulture awareness amongst people. However it is yet to gain the popularity that some of the other flower shows have garnered so far. Nevertheless, it does not fail to dazzle.
San Diego Gardens
Quail Botanical Gardens began as the 30-acre private estate of Charles and Ruth Larabee. The Larabee's landscaped the property around their modest home with exotic plants they collected during their worldwide travels, including cork oaks, palms, cycads, aloes, cacti, hibiscus and unusual subtropical fruit bearing plants and trees. As active Scout leaders, the couple sought to personally educate local young people about nature, using the estate's gardens as their teaching site. In the spirit of continuing public environmental education, Mrs. Larabee left her private residence and its grounds to the County of San Diego in 1957. Quail Botanical Gardens Foundation was formed three years later to preserve and support this remarkable garden.
Since then the garden has gone on to become one of the larger botanical gardens in the country and attracts hundreds of visitors everyday. They organize regular events, and even conduct gardening classes for children and adults alike. You can learn more about the Quail Botanical Gardens at www.qbgardens.com.
