Purple flowers are not that exotic really. They are like one of those things that we see all the time and still leave them unnoticed. However if you ever did stop to take a look at any purple flower you would be sure to have the wind knocked out of you because the rich color is so alluringly attractive. Or maybe I am just biased! Purple is the color of spirituality, nobility and wealth. Purple flowers bloom in a variety of tones ranging from the regal jewel purple wild flowers to the washed out pale purple cone flower. Purple orchids are a
very popular choice for the modern workplace because of the strong ties that a purple flower has to superiority, wealth and dignity.
Purple Wedding Flowers
For centuries kings and queens have used purple flowers at ceremonies to indicate their majestic standing. While the rest of us lesser mortals may not be descendants of blue bloodlines, using purple blooms at your wedding is sure to add a touch of royal air to it. Thanks to the wide range of hues, tonal arrangements are bound to get you great results, for example, the bridal bouquet could have a dark purple orchid or an Iris in the center surrounded by paler lilac flowers and a cascade of the mysterious wisteria. Besides a purple bouquet is bound to enhance the beauty of the bridal gown. Maroon and gold are the colors that best complement purple, you may want to keep that in mind while doing the décor. The centerpieces could be an array of maroon and purple flowers with a golden mesh. Doesn’t it sound just grand??
Chicory
Also known as the ‘Ragged sailor’ as its blooms are at their brightest in the morning but begin to wilt away by the afternoon, the Chicory is one of the more unusual type of purple flowers. It belongs to the sunflower family and looks very much like a sunflower too except that it is Purple! What adds to the allure of purple flowers is the fact that they all seem to have small little legends about their origin. It is said that a young maiden who refused the advances of Apollo, the sun god was turned into a Chicory flower that had to stare at the sun each day and always faded in its mighty presence. Hmmm…go chew on that.
Blue Violet
It is a rich purple flower with a haunting fragrance. I say haunting because you can’t really place what it smells like though you are sure of having smelt it before somewhere. The Blur violets are a common symbol of suffering, mourning and death. It is said that blue violets sprang from the graves of virgin women, and is therefore also a symbol for the Virgin Mary and a Victorian symbol of steadfastness. Legend has it that Zeus, the king of gods, turned Io, his lover, into a white cow to placate his jealous wife. He then created sweet scented Blue Violets for her to graze on.
