Introduction

Father's Day is not only a marked day to show reverence and love to Fathers but also to remind them that we care for them and they occupy a central position in our hearts. Unlike the Mother's Day, it has come to effect only in the early twentieth century. This custom of dedicating a day for the Fathers has become quite popular and people all over the world have put dedicated efforts to make this day memorable every year.

Origin of Father's Day

The gesture of love and affection which Mrs. John B. Dodd of Washington wanted to show to her father William Smart led to the birth of the idea of a "father's day" in 1909. She was the one who felt that it forms a part of our responsibility to honor our Fathers for everything they do to nurture us.

The first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington and it was during that time that people from various towns and cities of America started to celebrate a father's day. Nowadays, Father's Day is observed not only to honor your father, but all father figures including, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, etc.

Since the initial stages of Father's Day history, different nations have chosen a particular date to celebrate this day in their own way. In the US , 3rd Sunday of June is observed as Father's Day.
