| Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in honor of Ganesha, the elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati with great enthusiasm. Shivaji, the great Maratha ruler started the festival for the first time. Images of the deity are worshipped with devotional songs and dances, cymbals and drums. A large procession is held finally to immerse the holy idol in the sea/lake/river. | ||||||||
