Life without friends is just no life at all, call it as mere existence. It is a friend who brings color to your barren solitary life. Man cannot live alone; he needs a shelter to come back to, to confide to. This role is aptly played by friends who become your confidante. A good friend is like your shelter; he/she is someone you can fall back on in time of difficulties. Poets over ages have tried to capture the feelings of friendship through their pen and in the process immortalize the relation of friendship through their words.

There are some famous friendship poems which have become synonymous with friendship. Shakespeare have given new meaning to friends in the concluding lines of his immortal friendship sonnet,

"But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,
All losses are restored and sorrows end."

Here, Shakespeare beautifully represents the role of friends in our life. A friend is always a dear person in him/ her we find end of all sorrows and beginning of joy. Do we not seek such a friend in our times of grief and troubles? Feeling this dying desire in man, Shakespeare has framed man's eternal quest for a true friend in his famous friendship sonnets.

Poets have surpassed all language and cultural boundaries in their attempt to define the beauty of friendship in their immortal poetic lines. Even in lines of Ralph Waldo Enerson's famous friendship poem, he honors friendship with words:

  • A ruddy drop of manly blood
    The surging sea outweighs;
    The world uncertain comes and goes,
    The lover rooted stays.
    I fancied he was fled,
    And, after many a year,
    Glowed unexhausted kindliness
    Like daily sunrise there.
    My careful heart was free again-
    O friend, my bosom said,
    Through thee alone the sky is arched,
    Through thee the rose is red,
    All things through thee takes nobler form
    And look beyond the earth,
    The mill-round of our fate appears
    A sun-path in thy worth.
    Me too thy nobleness has taught
    To master my despair;
    The fountains of my hidden life
    Are through thy friendship fair.
Such is the value of friendship, that it has eternalized the emotions of friendship. Visit the pages of Dgreetings.com to surprise yourself with the information about Friendship Day.
