| The dwarf lake Iris is the official State flower of Michigan. However, there is an interesting story behind the choosing of the official wild flower of the state. The Michigan Wild flower Association in the year 1996 had decided to choose the state wild flower by a voting system. Accordingly, 6 wild flowers native to Michigan were nominated and put up for election. The white Trillium won the election and was initially declared as the state wild flower. But later Michigan Botanical Club supported by the Michigan Environmental Counsel nominated the dwarf lake Iris as the state wild flower on the grounds that the lake Iris was an endangered wild flower species and required more attention and conservation. Since then the dwarf lake Iris is the official Michigan wild flower. |

Michigan is located in the outskirts of the prairies grassland and so the soil condition is particularly suited for the wild flowers and grasses.
