Palm Sunday |
Palm Sunday according to the Christian calendar falls on the Sunday preceding Easter. As per the Western church the Palm Sunday should always be celebrated on any of the 35 dates between the period of 15th March and 18th April. Palm Sunday basically initiates the Holy week that eventually leads to the auspicious and the rejoicing occasion of Easter. The day memorializes the triumph of Jesus Christ's entry into Jerusalem when people laid palms in front of Him. |
| The Palm Sunday traditions include the practice of receiving of the palm leaves by the patrons in the churches. Secondly the churches also distribute the blessed palms among the masses.
| These palms are then taken home by the people and are positioned around the different pious and religious pictures and images. These palms are kept for the entire year and then are replaced by the new palms on the next Palm Sunday. These palms are regarded as very auspicious and hence should not be burned or buried. In Spain according to the Palm Sunday the palm leaves are tied and covered in order to whiten them up. Next they are dried and braided in different shapes.

| Palm symbols have always symbolized victory and triumph since time immemorial. The Romans used to present their winning champions with the palm branches as a symbol of their victory. The Palm Sunday has also been given the name of 'Flower Sunday' as in the places near Constantinople the spring flowers were distributed as a part of the celebrations of this occasion. |
