History of Easter Chocolate

As we all know Easter is celebrated by many as a religious holiday. However there is a secular aspect of this springtime festivity that indulges people to celebrate the return of spring with an uproarious festival. Regardless of these differing beliefs and reasons for celebrating Easter, it has always held the strong appeal of being a time where things are fresh and new. And of all the symbols related with Easter, the egg, the icon of
fertility and new life, is the most identifiable. Easter egg is one of the loved and practicing traditions that have witnessed many changes over the years.
In early days, an ordinary bird's egg was seen as the emblem of the springtime festive spirit. The ancient Greeks, Chinese and Persians all gave them as gifts during their festivals at this time of the year. Whereas in the Middle Ages, eggs were decorated with rich and vivid colors to give them further meaning as a gift. Over the years chocolate eggs have grew in popularity and became the primary Easter treat throughout the world. So, let us all delve into the scrumptious History of Easter Chocolate with Dgreetings!!!
The tradition of chocolate Easter eggs is relatively recent. In the early 1800's the first chocolate Easter egg appeared in Germany and France. In 1873 in the UK, JS Fry (now owned by Cadbury) introduced its first Easter eggs in the market. These delicious treats were made of dark chocolate and filled with sweets which soon spread to the rest of Europe and beyond. The first chocolate eggs were followed by hollow eggs. Although preparing hollow eggs at that time was not an easy job as they had to use a paste made from ground roasted Cacao beans. By the 1960s, the chocolate egg had become the preferred Easter gift.
