Easter Origin

The name "Easter" originated with the names of an ancient Goddess and a God. Venerable Bede (672-735 CE), a famous Christian scholar, is said to be first to assert in his book 'De Ratione Temporum' that Easter is named after 'Eostre'. Eostre was the Great Mother Goddess of the Saxon people in Northern Europe.Different theories have been woven around the origin of Easter. It's believed that the history of Easter has its significant roots in the Mediterranean region, where there was a pre-Christian spring celebration centering around the vernal equinox that honored Cybele, the Phrygian goddess of fertility.
The Christian origin of Easter can be found on the pages of Holy Scriptures where some important disciples of Jesus Christ like John, Mark, Luke and Matthew, give their own detailed descriptions of Christ's crucifixion and eventual resurrection. Easter Sunday is the day when Jesus was resurrected from his tomb, three days after his death. It is, therefore, said that 'Jesus is risen' and 'Jesus is alive'.
Also the Pagan origin of Easter believed that it was the time of honoring Eostre, the great mother goddess of the Saxons during the spring season. The origin of Easter is also based on the fact that Semeramis, the Babylonian "queen of heaven" and the wife of Nimrod, was the original impersonation of gentile goddesses, Astarte and Venus of the Greeks, Juno of the Latins, Ashtoreth of the Zidonians, Ishtar of the Babylonians, and Eostre, the goddess of spring of the early Anglo-Saxons. The Druids thus held religious festivities in her honor and in the honor of sun-god in April, calling it "Easter Monath".
The origin of Easter tradition of Lent season is of pure Babylonian origin. It's believed that there's a strong connection between Christ's Resurrection and Jewish Passover. As Easter origin can be traced to the Passover ceremony itself. Christian scholars believe that the Old Testament is Christ concealed, while the New Testament is Christ revealed. Also known as Resurrection Day, Easter is the very turning point of the Christian faith. Thus, Easter origin has different facets, each having its own symbolic significance.
