All over the world, Easter eggs are decorated using different patterns and different materials. This tradition of decorating Easter eggs with various patterns is a very old tradition. In Austria, eggs were boiled after tiny plants were placed around them. It made white patterns on the egg when the plants were removed.
In Eastern European countries, wax was applied on the eggs forming intricate patterns. The egg would then be dyed in a particular shade. The egg would again be dyed in different shades after reapplying wax on dyed portions to preserve the shade achieved. A patterned or striped egg with many colors was formed in this way.
