Chinese New Year is a time for real celebration and is linked with many Chinese New Year symbols. The customs and traditions state that each of the symbols of Chinese New Year has its own importance. Every symbol, having a deep meaning associated with it, brings the vibrant atmosphere that celebrations actually require. It is believed that the symbols of Chinese New Year celebrations bring along with it prosperity and happiness in everybody’s lives.

Different Chinese New Year symbols :

Chinese Lunar Calendar: Chinese Lunar Calendar is dependant on the moon cycles

and is constructed in a different fashion altogether than the Western solar calendar. This symbol of Chinese New Year depicts dates of both the Gregorian (Western) calendar and the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

Lai-See Envelopes: Otherwise known as Hong-Bao, money is put inside these envelopes and handed over to children and adults on Chinese New Year. It has the same spirit as that of the New Year presents.

Plum Blossoms : This symbol of Chinese New Year denotes courage and hope.

Spring Couplets: A very old New Year symbol for the Chinese, spring couplets are traditionally written with

black ink on red paper and hung in front of the doors before the New Year day. Bringing best wishes and fortune along with it, they happen to be an important Chinese New Year symbol.

Chinese Zodiac: The rotating cycle of twelve animal signs denotes the Chinese zodiacs and is an important symbol of the Chinese New Year.
