Raksha Bandhan

Raksha meaning protection and Bandhan meaning relation, Rakhi or the Raksha Bandhan day is an occasion which enlivens the bond of love between brothers and sisters. It is observed by tying a thread on the brother’s hand while reciting a prayer to God for his well being and happiness. In return the brother vows to protect his sister from all the negativities of life.It is also believed that the Rakhi protects the brother like a shield from all the possible evils in his life.
Celebrated all over India, Rakhi glorifies the unconditional love between brothers and sisters. Several customs and traditions are followed to make this day special and memorable. Sisters observe fast from the morning until they offer their prayers to God. The thali for the Rakhi is decorated with diya, sweets and flowers and most importantly Rakhi. After the puja and the aarti, the thread tying ceremony comes where sisters tie rakhi on their brother’s wrist and enchant an ancient verse to keep their brothers away from the trials of life. The ritual and customs come to an end as brothers shower their sisters with Rakhi gifts. Gifts are the special part of Rakhi celebration. This pious day is not complete without gifts.
A gift is believed to be a token of love from a brother. It is considered to portray his love, care and appreciation in return for his sister’s adoration. All together Rakhi strengthens the eternal tie of love between brothers and sisters who vow to care and protect each other all throughout their lives on this very day.
