Food is probably the most awaited part of any party. Be it a birthday party or an anniversary celebration, the guests simply look forward for the host to bring in the steaming trays. It is therefore really important for the host to decide what he would be serving to his guests for the party.

The menu for a birthday party has to be selected keeping in mind the duration of the party and the age of the guests attending the party. The food to be served to the kids would naturally have to be lighter than those for the grown ups. Here a few suggestions for giving your guests a mouth watering treat. If your guest list has a heterogeneous age group, it would be better to pick a menu that guests of all ages would like to relish upon. A variety of salads, dips, cakes and ice cream would do well for all ages.

Finger food is the best for a birthday party. Meat balls and cheese trays are easy to serve if space is a constraint in the party place.
Pizza does well as a party food too! Keep a variety of them to let the guests choose according to their preferences.

Kids love cup cakes and so do the grown ups! The cakes would turn yummier if you decorate them with nut or fruit sprinkles.

Ice creams are an absolute must for a birthday party! Keep a number of flavors and let the guests have their scoop.

A birthday party food list is never complete without chocolates and jello. Keep a liberal helping of a variety of chocolates and candies for the kids to munch.

It would be better to keep separate drinks for the kids. You can keep fruit juices of punches for the younger ones. If it’s a toddler’s birthday party, keep diluted fruit drinks for the babies to sip. It would be better to avoid any hard drink if the party is for a child. The grown ups can have iced tea or mocktails in that case.

The food you choose for a birthday party would obviously depend on the party theme too. The party food could be made all the more unique for the theme parties and you can always improvise and decorate the food keeping the party theme in mind.

For a party on the beach or in an amusement park, sandwiches, chips and meat malls would be more convenient to carry.

If you plan to celebrate the day watching a movie with your guests, pizza would be the best option with pop corns to munch.

For a princess birthday party, include star shaped cookies with jelly toppings.

For the pirate parties, pin pirate flags on the food. You can even try to decorate the cup cakes to make them look like pirate faces or skulls. Your guests would love to sip a red punch if you name it the ‘crocodile blood punch.’

The birthday cakes should bear on the party theme too! Get the cakes shaped specially for the theme, that is, for a party of a soccer lover, give the cake a soccer ball look. A castle cake would be the best for a princess party. Check with your local bakery to get a one suitable for your theme, and if you are baking it yourself, and cannot manage a complicated shape, just ice the cake with the theme color.

If you are cooking for the party yourself, make sure you have all your supplies ready before the d-day. If there is enough space, it would be a good idea to put up separate food stalls for the different items. However, if that is not feasible, just line the food stuff on a large table and let your guests help themselves.

So frame the birthday party menu keeping the important considerations in mind, and let your guests savor the best party food they have ever had!
