Birthday Party Activities

No matter how interesting the theme is and how yummy the food is, a birthday party can pale out in the absence of anything to do. You can’t really entertain your guests merely by chatting with them. So the best way to keep your guests glued to the party is to give them some exciting games and crafts to do. The birthday party activities have to be selected keeping in mind the age group of your guests. The games for the kids would naturally be a misfit for the grown ups unless you deliberately want to give them kid's games for fun. The party theme also plays a vital role in deciding what the party activity should be like.

Crafts are a good way of keeping the kids busy. The young ones generally love to bend over their scissors and glue sticks. The crafts can be chosen to suit the party theme. For instance, in a Barbie princess party, the little girls can make tiny ornaments for their dolls. You can even have a competition for the best beaded bracelet or the best made hair clip. Provide the kids with plenty of sparkles and beads to make ornaments for themselves as well. These would make excellent party favors and thus minimize your job of hunting for favors.
The kids can design their own goodie bags. Give each kid colored papers and ribbons for making the bags. You can even teach them how to make purses and let them design their own ones.

The kids can also make models out of plastic clay. Give them some colored dough to set their creativity rolling.

For a sleep over party, it would be a good idea to give the guests a pillow cover each and ask them to embroider or paint the covers as they like.

A t-shirt painting competition would be a fun activity for a birthday party. Just give your guests their colors and brushes and watch the little designers paint wonderful patterns on the shirts.

Another thing to do in a party can be puppet making. Teach the kids how to make their own puppets and the fun would be doubled if you hold a puppet show with the ones they have made. You can do the same thing with masks too! If you have enough saplings and tubs, the kids can also be made to plant a sapling each. They can even paint the tub and carry the plant home as a souvenir from the party.

For the older guests, an ideal activity would be composing an album for the guest of honor. They can all scribble little notes sharing their feelings for the birthday boy or girl, and scrawl a little drawing or a poem for him.

Games are an absolute must to pep up a birthday party. This activity too should be selected according to the theme of the party and the age of the players. Here are some exciting games to stir a party:

  • Piñata
  • Pin The Tail On The Donkey
  • Toss The Bean Bag
  • Treasure Hunts
  • Dart Games
  • Hooplas
  • Dress-Up Contests
  • Charades
  • Musical Chairs
  • Go Statue
  • Memory Games
  • Balloon Stomp

The birthday party activities can be endless and it’s for the host to think of new ones to entertain the guests.
