Bastille Day Food Recipes

French Bread:
The ingredients required 30 servings of French bread are given below.

Ingredients :
  • 6 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 1/2 (.25 ounce) packages of active dry yeast
  • 2 cups warm water (heated to 110F)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
    1 tablespoon of water
Procedure:
1. Mix 2 cups of flour, salt and yeast in a large bowl and add 2 cups of warm water.
2. Blend the water with the other ingredients by using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment.
3. Stir in the remaining flour with a wooden spoon.
4. Knead in flour for 10 minutes, so that a stiff yet smooth dough is formed.
5. Apply grease on a bowl and place the dough into it.

6. Warm the dough so that it rises up to a certain level.
7. Divide the dough into half and let it rest for 10 minutes on a floured surface.
8. Roll each half in the form of a rectangle.
9. Moisten the edges of the dough after sealing, such that the taper ends.
10. Apply grease on a large baking sheet and sprinkle cornmeal on it.
11. Place the loaves on the baking sheet.
12. Beat the egg white with water, and brush on.
13. Let the loaves rise for 30 minutes till they’re nearly doubled.
14. Cut each loaf diagonally across its top. Bake in an oven heated to 375F.
15. Brush each loaf once again with egg white mixture and bake for 20 minutes.
16. Cover the ingredients with foil to avoid over-browning.
17. Take the loaves away from the baking sheet and cool them.

Zesty Tapenade Recipe:
This recipe is a staple food of Provence, located in the South of France. To prepare this recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients (for 6 servings).

Ingredients :
  • 1/2 lb black olives, drained
  • 1 clove of crushed garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon of anchovy paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon of lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons of capers, drained
  • 1/8 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • 4 tablespoons of olive oil

Ingredients :
  • 3 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons of honey
  • 1/2 cup of dry white wine
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
