|Administrative Professional's Day Dates|
The Administrative Professional's Day, alternatively known as the Secretaries Day or Admin Day is observed worldwide in many countries to appreciate the works done by secretaries and administrative personnel in offices. It is often a secular holiday in the countries where it is observed. In North America, it is celebrated on the last Wednesday of the month of April whereas in Europe it falls on the third Thursday of the same month. The Administrative Professionals Week is celebrated during the last full week of April.
The concept of designating a day to recognize the importance and contribution of the secretaries in offices originated during the World War II when the country faced an acute crunch of skilled secretaries to run the offices. The idea to create a day for secretaries begun with Mary Barrett, who was the president of the National Secretaries Association and C. King Woodbridge, president of the Dictaphone Corporation. They along with Harry Klemfuss, the public relations and accounts executive at Young & Rubicam, first conceptualized the idea of Secretary Week. The first celebration took place in 1952.
Klemfuss used his PR skills to make the corporate aware of the importance of their secretaries and recognize their contributions accordingly. He ran campaigns with the objective to encourage more women to take up positions as secretaries in offices. In order to emphasize his idea he created a holiday dedicated to the secretaries.
Today the celebration has taken a broader form and its name has been changed in 2000 to Administrative Professional's Day to pay tribute to all the administrative workers in an organization. The name of the National Secretaries Association has also been changed to reflect the changed nature of secretarial jobs and in 1998 it was changed to Association of Administrative Professionals or IAAP.
Since the beginning the celebration has gone through many transformations. The celebration now has taken the form of giving gifts, flowers, cards, or gift baskets to the administrative workers. Some employers may even take their employees out on a launch on Administrative Professional's Day.
The Administrative Professional's Day 2017 will be celebrated on April Apr 26 . Many employers organize events to appreciate the works done by their administrative department. In some offices employers give our gifts, certificates and mementoes to recognize the good work done by them.
